Rainy Day Poem

I heard the fox
calling in the distance
stark black night
her howl carried
pierced the air
unmistakable
since the early morning
not that long ago
when miraculously
righteous on the boulder in the lawn
beckoning her mate
gathering her kits
howling for the pure joy
of being alive
purposeful
determined
making herself
heard.
